Director S.S. Rajamouli has shared an exciting update on his highly anticipated action-adventure film ‘Varanasi’, starring Superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead. The filmmaker revealed that the production is progressing smoothly and that the film’s biggest action sequences have already been completed.
Rajamouli recently attended the Annecy International Animation Festival, where he participated in a work-in-progress session for Baahubali: The Eternal War. Speaking to Variety after the event, he offered fresh insights into the status of Varanasi, one of the most awaited Indian films currently in production.
According to Rajamouli, the team has already wrapped up a significant portion of the shoot, including all the large-scale action episodes.
“We have completed a major portion of the shoot. All the important, big spectacle action sequences are done. We are now filming the smaller interconnecting scenes. Hopefully, by September or a little into October, we should finish shooting,” Rajamouli said.
His comments indicate that the remaining schedule mainly consists of emotional and character-driven scenes that connect the film’s massive action set pieces.
Varanasi features Mahesh Babu in the lead role, with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran playing pivotal characters. The film is being produced by K.L. Narayana under the Durga Arts banner, while Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani is composing the soundtrack.
Regarded as Rajamouli’s most ambitious project to date, Varanasi is being mounted on a grand international scale with a globe-trotting adventure backdrop. Once filming concludes by September or early October, the team will shift its focus to an extensive post-production process involving visual effects and technical work.
The film is currently scheduled for a grand worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027. With Rajamouli’s latest production update, anticipation for the film has reached an all-time high among movie lovers.
