Rajamouli Reveals the Biggest Surprise About Mahesh Babu’s ‘Varanasi’ – “It’s a Father-Son Story”

Director S.S. Rajamouli has landed in France for the first time to participate in a week-long celebration of his iconic filmography. From June 26 to July 4, 2026, the visionary director is attending screenings, masterclasses, press interactions, interviews, and fan meet-and-greets across Paris, Lyon, and Neuchâtel. The event celebrates Rajamouli’s remarkable cinematic journey with special screenings of RRR, Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Eega, and Maryada Ramanna. Fans in France will also get a rare opportunity to interact with the filmmaker during exclusive masterclasses and signing sessions.

However, the biggest attraction of the tour is the exclusive preview of Rajamouli’s upcoming magnum opus, Varanasi. Organizers have confirmed that every screening during the France tour will feature a special first glimpse of Varanasi, giving international audiences an early look at one of India’s most anticipated films.Adding to the excitement, audiences will also witness the first look at Baahubali: The Eternal War – Part I, making the screenings a treat for Rajamouli fans.

Speaking about what audiences can expect from Varanasi, Rajamouli revealed that the film will take viewers on an extraordinary journey across different worlds and landscapes. “You are going to experience the wilderness of Africa. You’re going to experience the cold and ice of Antarctica. You’re going to experience the gods of the Ramayana. You’re going to experience natural disasters and fantastic fantasy elements,” the ace filmmaker said.Despite its massive scale, Rajamouli stressed that the film’s biggest strength lies in its emotional core. “But like I said in the beginning, at the core of all this is the emotion of a father and son. The core theme of Varanasi is the emotional bond between a father and son,” he explained.

The filmmaker’s statement makes it clear that while Varanasi promises breathtaking visuals, globe-spanning adventures, mythological references, and fantasy-driven storytelling, it ultimately revolves around a deeply moving father-son relationship. Varanasi is scheduled to hit theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027. With the first glimpse set to premiere during Rajamouli’s France tour, anticipation for the film has reached an all-time high. Starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, Varanasi features music by Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani.
