Against all pre-release predictions, Maa Inti Bangaaram has emerged as one of the biggest overseas success stories of the year. Samantha’s comeback vehicle has now crossed the $2 million milestone at the North American box office, setting a new benchmark as the first female-led Telugu film to achieve the feat.
Trade circles initially expected the film to wrap up its entire run at around $1 million. Instead, it reached that mark in just four days and continued to attract audiences with consistent collections over the following weeks. Even after the initial rush subsided, the film sustained enough momentum to double its early projections and enter the exclusive $2 million club.
Directed by Nandini Reddy, Maa Inti Bangaaram follows the journey of a newly married woman whose visit to her husband’s ancestral home takes an unexpected turn. As hidden truths from her past come back to haunt her, she is compelled to use the combat skills from her former life to protect the people she loves. The film’s blend of family emotions and action struck a chord with audiences across overseas markets.
Although opinions on the second half were divided, Samantha’s commanding performance and the film’s emotional storytelling generated strong word of mouth, which played a crucial role in its long theatrical run. The blockbuster success marks a significant comeback for the actress, who returned to the big screen in a lead role after a three-year break.
Adding to the celebrations, Samantha is also entering a new phase in her personal life. She is expecting her first child with her husband, Raj Nidimoru, who also penned the story and co-produced Maa Inti Bangaaram.
