Ramayana Trailer Postponed: Here’s Why the Much-Awaited Launch Has Been Delayed

The much-awaited trailer of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, will take a little longer to arrive. The trailer, which was expected to be unveiled on July 24, 2026, has been postponed as the makers revise their promotional strategy for the ambitious mythological epic.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is one of the most anticipated Indian films currently in production. Given the scale of the project and the enormous interest surrounding its cast and visuals, expectations were high for the trailer launch. However, producer Namit Malhotra confirmed that the team has decided to delay the release.

Why Was the Ramayana Trailer Postponed?

The postponement is linked to a major development in the film’s global release strategy.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has joined Ramayana as its global distribution partner, giving the film a significantly wider international distribution network. Following the partnership, the makers are reportedly restructuring the trailer launch and promotional campaign to position Ramayana as a major worldwide theatrical event.

Instead of proceeding with the previously planned July 24 launch, the team intends to unveil the trailer as part of a larger global campaign.

A new trailer release date has not yet been announced.

The development suggests that the delay is primarily a strategic marketing decision rather than an indication of production trouble. With the film targeting audiences beyond India, its promotional material is expected to be coordinated across multiple international markets.

Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi Lead the Epic

Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita.

The film also boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Yash is set to play Ravana, while Sunny Deol takes on the role of Hanuman and Ravi Dubey portrays Lakshmana.

The combination of a celebrated mythological story, major stars and large-scale production has made Ramayana one of the most closely watched Indian film projects.

Nitesh Tiwari, known for films such as Dangal and Chhichhore, is directing the epic, while Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus is backing the ambitious production.

Ramayana Planned as a Two-Part Saga

The makers are developing Ramayana as a two-part cinematic saga rather than attempting to tell the entire story in a single film.

The first installment is planned for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release, while the second part is intended to arrive during Diwali 2027.

This two-film approach gives the filmmakers more room to explore the characters, conflicts and scale of the epic while creating a theatrical franchise aimed at audiences in India and overseas.

Global Ambitions Grow Bigger

Sony Pictures Entertainment’s involvement could play an important role in expanding the film’s international footprint.

Indian films have increasingly found audiences across North America, the Middle East, Europe and other territories. With Ramayana, the makers appear to be aiming for a coordinated worldwide release backed by a large-scale marketing campaign.

The postponement of the trailer therefore appears to be part of that broader strategy.

While fans may have to wait longer for the first full trailer, expectations are likely to remain high. The next major update will be the announcement of the revised trailer launch date.

With Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol leading its cast, and a two-part release strategy already in place, Ramayana is positioning itself as one of the biggest Indian theatrical events of 2026.
